What is One Team Recovery (OTR)

Image module

OTR is a community-based recovery program for those with a substance use issue who are ready to begin steps towards moderation or abstaining from use.

OTR has several components available to support individuals along their recovery path as well as family and friends. OTR avoids labelling participants as “addicts” or “alcoholics”. We believe that addiction is an experience and not your identity. OTR is informed by the SMART recovery model and is a non-spiritual alternative to 12-step programs. OTR is also a trauma-informed program and safe space for the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

“We believe that addiction is an experience and not your identity.”

OTR Outpatient Group

OTR is a free, co-ed group, 5-week substance use recovery program that supports individuals who are motivated to moderate or abstain from their substance of choice. OTR is offered throughout Windsor and Essex County 2 days/week, 4 hr/day with program cycles throughout the calendar year. One-to-one sessions are also offered to support recovery outside of group sessions if individuals do not already have counselling supports in place.

Participants receive a certificate of completion once they have completed the group.
For virtual sessions, technology support is available if needed.

2SLGBTQ+ Outpatient Group

Based on our existing OTR program, the Windsor Team Care Centre, in collaboration with Windsor Pride Community, offers a specially tailored program for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This program has been designed through an affirmative care lens using a trauma informed approach and aims to provide a safe space for the 2SLGBTQ+ community to participate in and received dedicated outpatient care for substance use.

What Makes Us Different?

ONE Team Recovery promotes personal wellness through self-management & recovery training with individual, group therapy/counselling and education. It is an alternative to 12-Step and faith-based recovery models.

Outpatient treatment allows for individuals to accommodate their employment, education and their family obligations.

Is OTR Right For You?

  • OTR is for individuals who are motivated to moderate or abstain from their substance of choice.
  • Participants must be 16 years+, do not require 24-hour supervision, able to function in their daily life, and can abstain from substance use during programming.
  • Supports individuals currently prescribed Methadone, Suboxone, Naltrexone and other medical aids.

Who Provides the One Team Recovery Program?

OTR is provided through a partnership between the Windsor Family Health Team – Windsor Team Care Centre, Family Services Windsor Essex, Windsor Essex Community Health Centre and Essex County Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic, Erie Shores Family Health Team, and Windsor Pride Community. Funding for OTR is provided by the Ministry of Health and the Windsor-Essex Community Foundation. We are organizations with a shared mission of championing transformative change to improve the health and wellbeing of people and communities facing barriers to health.

All OTR facilitators are Canadian Certified Addictions Counsellors and/or Registered Social Workers, as well as trained in the SMART Recovery Model.
